College Mission, Aims, Values and Principles, and Objectives

Mission statement

Langdon College will contribute towards an inclusive national further education service by providing high quality further education for young Jewish people with learning difficulties whose needs cannot be met by local providers.


Aims

In order to fulfil its stated mission the College is committed to:

Providing a range of inclusive quality education, training, social care, and assessment services;

Assisting students achieve their full potential through the concept of learning as a continuing and lifelong process and, by the promotion of an inclusive learning culture;

Incorporating individual learning and training programmes formulated to the needs of the students which will lead to nationally recognized qualification;

Providing students with the necessary personal and life skills to enhance their quality of life and make a positive and worthwhile economic contribution to their community;

Providing behavioural strategies that support and help the student develop as great a degree of independence as possible;

Providing a social caring and supportive environment, responsive to the individual needs and wishes of each student;

Providing students with the opportunity for life-long learning and living within the College and local community;

Responding flexibly to developments in education and training;

Ensuring equality of opportunity for students and staff;

Investing in the development of the staff;

Effectively and efficiently managing College resources to meet the needs of the students;

Regularly review College provision and operations against nationally agreed standards.


Values and Principles

Langdon College is committed to:

Promoting a Jewish ethos based on the concept of Judaism as a way of life;

Providing an environment where the knowledge and skills required to lead an appropriate Jewish lifestyle with the minimum of support can be developed through the normal rhythm of the Jewish calendar and through adherence to Jewish customs and protocols;

Working with other organisations, industry, commerce and government to further provision for students with learning difficulties and disabilities;

Using the resources available to the College for developing the abilities of students with learning difficulties and disabilities;

Increasing the participation of staff, students, governors, parents, and the community in the development of the College;


College General Objectives

To extend and improve access to College provision for students with physical difficulties and disabilities;

To extend the range of Langdon College's programmes, year on year;

To increase flexibility of provision;

To fulfil the residential potential of the College and increase residential students numbers.

To increase the students day places.

To increase student outcomes in terms of progression, qualifications, and work experience overall;

To extend participation of students and staff in the development of the College through regular student and staff meetings in the homes and College;

To actively pursue a policy of equality of opportunity for day students by increasing the learning hours and classes available;

To provide additional value added opportunities for students through increased recreational and social provision;

To provide additional individual training opportunities for staff from across the College;

To apply a set of indicators against which college performance can be measured as stated above.
